On May 7, the No.2 Gas Processing Plant of Amu Darya project in the Bagtyiarlyk contract area in Turkmenistan became operational. Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov, delegates from China’s National Energy Administration, and CNPC representatives attended the debut ceremony.
CNPC is the natural gas E&P and processing contractor of the Bagtyiarlyk contract area. On December 14, 2009, the No. 1 Gas Processing Plant in the contract area became operational and started to deliver natural gas to China. December 13, 2011 marked the start-up of the No. 2 Gas Processing Plant, which was independently constructed and operated by CNPC, with an annual capacity of 9 billion cubic meters. The two plants now have a total processing capacity of 15 billion cubic meters per year.
In addition, the EPC project on the Galkynysh Gas Field for 30 bcm/a production capacity building kicked off on May 8, which is one of the world’s largest EPC projects in recent years. Once the project completed, 30 billion cubic meters more natural gas will be transported from the Galkynysh Gas Field to the Chinese markets.
By the end of April 2014, Turkmenistan has accumulatively delivered 78.3 billion cubic meters of natural gas to China. In 2014, the full-year gas delivery is expected to be 30 billion cubic meters, taking approximately 1/6 of China’s gas consumption.
